Christ the King Parish has adopted a Family Faith Formation model for sharing our faith with children in kindergarten through 6th grade.
A Way of Life
The Family Formation model engages the whole family in living and nurturing our Catholic faith.
In the early years of children’s development, there is a natural openness to learning. Our children learn through observation—particularly of their parents and family members—so are more likely to embrace their faith when they see it lived day-to-day at home. This family catechesis program helps families use this time to engage their children in our faith traditions. This approach supports the Church’s view that parents are the first teachers of the faith to their children.
A Shared Experience
Christ the King Parish’s K-6 Family Faith Formation program provides faith-sharing opportunities at home, in class, and in community. The three elements are: Home Lessons: each month, families receive a packet of home lessons, which are easy to use and have been developed and used by parents amidst busy family life. These 1-hour lessons bring the whole family together to study and then apply the teachings to their day-to-day family life. Each packet provides parents with the tools they need to share the beauty of the Catholic Faith with their children. Classroom Learning: the first week of each month, children will attend a class with their peers, to learn about a particular church teaching. These lessons, led by catechists, allow for faith-sharing with their own age group. Family Gatherings: the third week of each month, families gather on a Sunday morning or Wednesday evening, to share doughnuts and coffee, pizza, or other refreshments as we build community and participate in a faith-building activity. These include break-out sessions for the children, parent talks with our clergy, family games or liturgical season activities. Sign-Up links for our Family Gatherings will be added in August, when we finalize our schedule!
